Bluecard Worldwide is something we come across as we provide our clients the Geo Blue Xplorer Global Citizen and the Geo Blue Navigator career insurance plans. Our plans, shown above, do not have the Bluecard Worldwide plan attached to them and for good reason(s).
Here is some very good information to keep in mind if you have or looking at purchasing the Bluecard Worldwide travel plan:
Bluecard Worldwide is very basic and most employers view it as inadequate overseas. It’s free just like healthcare is free in some socialized countries. Sometimes free comes at a heavy price. The reality is that there are many flavors of Bluecard Worldwide because each licensee decides, at a product level, what they will cover abroad. There are 37 licensees with thousands of plans. Generally most plans limit benefits to emergency care. Evacuation coverage is not assured or written into a certificate. Direct billing is limited to 1500 contracted facilities only. Those facilities are not selected using the same standards GeoBlue uses. Detailed doctor and hospital profiles are not available.. We understand that less than ten percent of overseas claims are settled directly by Bluecard (AXA is the assistance vendor). AXA does not have eligibility information and must contact the home plan each time a case comes up. This is a problem given time zone differences and lack of availability of the home plan. As you can appreciate, after business hours and weekends are particularly problematic.
When using our Geo Blue Xplorer Global Citizen or Navigator career insurance plans savvy employers and business travelers benefit from the comprehensive overseas coverage including fully insured evacuation coverage. Our clients can get direct billing for inpatient and outpatient care with GeoBlue. For out of network facilities, GeoBlue members also qualify for cashless, paperless access in most instances. There are other strengths of these two career insurance plans for our expats. Please go here to learn more, http://www.gninsurance.com/hth-global/#navigator.
