Cherrapunji is dubbed as the wettest city in the world because it has held the record for the most rainfall multiple times. The city is located 1,484 meters above sea level and close to the Bangladesh border. Cherrapunji has some of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls in India, including Nohsngithiang Falls (also known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls or Mawsmai Falls). Nohkalikai Falls is also in Cherrapunji. It is the tallest plunge waterfall in India, and the 4th highest in the world. The local residents of Cherrapunji have also developed techniques for growing tree roots into bridges. The process takes 10 to 15 years.
Darjeeling is a famous black tea known all over the world. It comes from this region. There are many tea plantations that serve as tourist attractions. Makaibari Tea Estate is the oldest tea garden in Darjeeling, and is open to visitors, both for the day, as well as overnight. For those of you who like more adventure, take the Joy Ride on the Toy Train that over the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways. A one-way trip is about 2 hours. During the holiday season, tickets sell out quickly, so we recommend booking tickets in advance via India’s Railway website.
Gangtok is one of the largest cities in Sikkim, India. The best time to visit is from April – June and September – November because it is between the height of the rainy season and the hot season. Ban Jhakri waterfalls are one of the most famous waterfalls in the city. There are also several lakes, including Tsomgo Lake, Menmecho Lake, and Lampokhari Lake. Gangtok holds several annual festivals, and some of the most popular ones are the Flower Festival, Ravangla Festival, and Hee-Bermiok Heritage & Tourism Festival. These festivals are held from March to May.
