A video load-out of a Greenroom136 JunkMonkey Heretic large-sized (15″ laptop) messenger-bag
In this hangout video we demonstrate how much a Junkmonkey Heretic (Greenroom136’s full-sized/large-sized) messenger bag will can hold/carry comfortably. Watch the video below to see how much it will hold. For travelers, note that this bag does not have a slot for slipping it onto a carry-on handle, however, the shoulder belt strap can be shortened all the way and secured in mere seconds to tightly function to slip-on a carry-on handle.
One thing we’d like to see in a messenger bag in the future is internal tie-down/compressions straps, like those used to hold clothes in a carry-on for overseas travel. As a messenger bag, being able to quickly and easily use internal straps and D-rings to secure and separate items marked for delivery is key. At each stop it’s much easier and faster to grab out the one loose item while everything else stays securely in place. External compression would also be nice to keep the bag as flat as possible, but must be carefully considered to keep from having too many loose straps when traveling or biking. which can be dangerous.
One thing Greenroom bags excel at is keeping items secure even when at a near semi-vertical position. We have never felt that either items were going to be all jostled together, or fall out when using this bag. Still internal straps to compress gear would be welcome.
The larger JunkMonkey (heretic) claims to hold a 15″ laptop (with plenty of space to spare) and 19 cubic liters. The medium-sized JunkMonkey claims to hold a 13″ laptop as well as 14 cubic liters. (Fully packed, it’s about 5″ thick on your hip, and about 20″ long by 12″ high) It won’t replace your carry-on overnight bag since we don’t think it’s large enough to hold extra shoes, change of clothes, toiletries and all your work gear (But we wouldn’t want it to – We like the slim look of the bag), but can be paired with one or even packed into your carry-on, one inside the other, so that you can quickly snatch it out of your carry-on before putting your carry-on and overnight gear in the overhead compartment while still being able to work on the plane. It also allows you to travel light (one-bag limit), and have a decent briefcase/bag with you at the other end of your trip when traveling for business.
